Imagining no storms
Angus is 7 years old. His picture is showing him being strong during a storm. He is very afraid of storms, but he said that imagining a world where there are never any storms helps to make him feel better.
Remembering
Josh is 11 years old and lives in a community that was very severely affected by the flash flooding of January 2011. He wrote a short piece to accompany his picture:
"In January 2011 waters flowing; waters reaching 170km in just 45 seconds, also reaching 3.9 metres were just flooding homes, but unfortunately I lost my friend, scout leader, and pal his house was under water and drowned so from that day on I always remember him."
Riding my bike
Kyan is 8 years old. Here is what he said: "in my picture I have clouds in a blue sky and I drew
the BMX track because it’s my favourite place to be. And I drew my family, I’m
showing it’s my favourite place to be." Because he likes riding bikes so much, he said it helps him feel strong.
Saving my family
Charlie is 8 years old. He said, "my picture is of me saving everyone from the
flood. I have drawn myself as a super person, like a super hero and am taking
everyone far away from the flood."
Thinking about what the future might hold...
Hannah, 8 years old, said this about her picture: "I’m thinking about remembering what happened in
Japan in the past and I’m thinking about how we need some help keeping some
good things in the world." She decided she wanted to do her own portrait.
Rocketship
Kevin is 6 years old. He said, "the picture is of me saving my family from the flood; on the water there is lava like fire – there is a rocketship to take my family somewhere else, to Sydney, everyone is inside the rocketship."
